I met Mona Jean a few years back in Cecilia Woloch's Paris Poetry Workshop. She was an invited
participant, a Spoken Word performer even then. A sister
Gemini, she speaks with her hands, but she is much more
effective than I! She uses sign language as she reads
her poems, turning them into dance. This poem is all
about that. It was filmed on June 6, 2011 at Spoken Word
Paris a the Cabaret Populaire in Belleville. Host and
creator of the event, David Barnes, invited her to be
the evening's featured reader when she was passing
through town to interpret for the World Cup Slam
Competitions, where she also represented our country tis
of thee, USA.
